I have always been fascinated by the alchemical process of transformation; the magical coming together of two or more elements to create a unique result.

My first experience of this was in school being introduced to enamelling, the art of synergistically bringing together, in their basic forms, glass, metal and the energy of heat to create something quite exquisite.

My next passion was theatre where, again, the art of combining a variety of complex art forms creates a magicalevent in bringing together diverse elements and fusing them into a production designed to transport the observer into a shifted reality. Many elements are used to create this transformed reality; light, sound, wardrobe, makeup, wigs, set, and special effects to name but a handful, all having a powerful part to play.

Now, based firmly in the ceramics’ world, my focus is the creation of single pieces, individually glazed using a combination of styles and techniques to bring uniqueness to every piece.

The art and science of ceramics has given me the opportunity to return to the excitement and wonder of those early days of enamelling in school.
